The formula
Engagement rate by followers = (likes + comments + shares/saves) ÷ followers × 100.
Engagement rate by views = (likes + comments + shares/saves) ÷ views × 100.
If you enter totals for several posts, set Number of posts and the calculator averages the interactions and views per post before dividing. Followers are not divided, because they are the same audience for every post.
Rough ranges used for comparison
- Instagram (by followers): below 1% is on the low side, 1–3% is typical, above 3% is strong.
- TikTok (by views): below 4% is on the low side, 4–10% is typical, above 10% is strong.
- YouTube (by views): below 2% is on the low side, 2–5% is typical, above 5% is strong.
- Facebook (by followers): below 0.5% is on the low side, 0.5–1.5% is typical, above 1.5% is strong.
- X (Twitter) (by followers): below 0.3% is on the low side, 0.3–1% is typical, above 1% is strong.
- LinkedIn (by followers): below 1% is on the low side, 1–3% is typical, above 3% is strong.
Treat these as a starting point, not a verdict. Compare against your own past posts: a rising rate over the last month says more than any benchmark.
